The Painter

GR, f8.0, 1/250, ISO 100, JPG

Another photo for my artists series and it would have also been a good fit for yesterday’s post. Took it while out for a walk in Greenwich park, where I have also processed it in-camera using the Positive Film effect.
I do like the JPGs in the GR, Ricoh has finally improved and moved away from the smudgy low dynamic range JPGs to quite excellent JPGs so the in-camera RAW development and effects make a lot more sense now.
Another nice thing about the GR is that you can shoot RAW while having the effects applied to the image, unlike the GRD IV and GXR where you could only use the effects in JPG only mode.

  1. I wish we could turn the clock back 30~50 years, when there was still heavy industry: flames, steam and smoke; also the London Docks were still open. Just think of the photographic opportunities, makes my mouth water. :)

  2. Thanks for the comments!Yesbuts, turning the clock back would be very interesting but it would also mean that I would not have the GRD and not be into photography. So I would like seing everything but would n ot have many pictures to show ;).Wouter, I can\’t wait till Photokina. Want to play around with the G1 and also see the G10 and P6000 in person. Hopefully there will be more interesting announcements.

  3. Lovely shot but I would like the painter a bit greater pictured in the left and perhaps what less parasols on the right or a portrait photo of this scene. Now I think it is a bit out of balance.

  4. Thanks for your comment and feedback!I wanted to include more of the overall scene to make it appear more like the painting she was working on. Her painting was focussed on the middle part of the scene with the umbrellas so I added the sides to frame her painting and show her in there painting it. Hope it makes sense but it might not be as well balanced now.

  5. In my days a painter had his or her focus including the direction of the canvas and the easel in the direction of the subject of the painting.
